Ideabook: Antique Chinese High Yoke-Back Armchairs
The high yoke-back armchair is one of the most successful of Chinese seating designs. Even though depiction of this armchair can be found in the wall murals of the Dunhuang caves in Shanxi province, dated back AD538, it did not become popular until later Song Dynasty. This armchair features protruding ends, broad and flat back yoke, and curved arms that protrude beyond its supporting posts. This style antique Chinese armchair can be integrated smoothly into a modern home.
With a slender silhouette and graceful proportions, yoke-back chairs from the Ming and Qing dynasties offer particularly elegant and practical ways to bring a piece of history into the home. They are excellent accent chairs in the entry/hall way, living room, dining room. The pictures in this post show how professionals incorporate high yoke-back chairs to their interior decoration beautifully.
